Terms and Conditions.

Time

Our office hours are 9am to 5pm (UK time) Monday to Friday, excluding UK Bank Holidays. If you make an order over the weekend or Bank Holiday, it will be processed on our next working day. You can fax or email at any time.

We do not hold any stock. We purchase all items to order so that you get the goods you choose with the longest possible shelf life. We do not visit all our suppliers every day. Certain shops are only visited once per week. Sometimes our suppliers are out of stock. There will therefore always be some delay before your order is sent.

We cannot guarantee delivery by a certain date. If you do require your order by a specific date, please check with us in advance to see if this is possible.

During busy periods such as Easter and Christmas we recommend you order as early as possible to allow sufficient time for us to purchase and ship your order, and to allow for delivery times, including seasonal delays in your local area which are beyond our control.

Shopping and payment

To make a purchase, click on any items that you wish to buy and add them to the shopping cart. After you have finished your selection, click on "Checkout" and you will be asked for a few details that we need to be able to satisfy the order. We will then send an e-mail confirming receipt of your order. This e-mail does not confirm that a contract exists between us.

Payment must be made in full before any order will be processed. All payments will be made in Pounds Sterling. Your card issuer will convert the payment to your local currency if appropriate. The currency conversion facility used by our website is for use as a general guide only. The rate quoted may not be the exchange rate used by your card issuer. Britstore will not be responsible for any differences between the exchange rate of the calculator and that of your card issuer.

Unavailability

It is possible a product is no longer available due to it being discontinued. We endeavour to keep our website as up to date as possible but we may be listing an item that is no longer available. Should you select such an item, a full refund will be given.

Equally, manufacturers occasionally change their recipes, item weight or packaging. Again, we strive to keep our pictures up to date but we do only use them for illustrative purposes. You will always receive the current product available to us at the time of your order.

Special offers

Due to increased shipping weights on multi-buys, special offers are only available from their specific web pages. The word "offer" must be in the description of the item placed in the shopping cart to benefit from the offer.

Delivery

Delivery times are governed by our couriers, and are approximate.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the delivery address and contact details are correct and that there will be someone available to accept delivery. Failure to do so may result in the order being returned to us and an additional postage charge will be incurred. Your telephone number may be given to our couriers to assist with the delivery.

Britstore accepts no responsibility if your delivery is delayed as a result of anything outside of our control e.g. flood, fire, other acts Of God, war or industrial action.

You are responsible for all import duties, taxes and other local charges levied in the country of delivery. We have no control over these and cannot predict what they may be. Britstore cannot be held responsible for the actions of Customs who may open or inspect any package. We therefore recommend that you check with your local import authorities before placing your order to avoid possible upset. Certain goods are banned from being imported into certain countries. It is your responsibility to ensure you only order goods which are permitted to enter your country. Britstore will not be responsible for any items impounded by customs and no refund will be given for any such items.

Returns
If you make a mistake whilst ordering we would be unable to offer a refund on any returns or postage including all grocery goods and all baby foods including milk. If the mistake is ours, then we will of course refund the cost and shipping or the items concerned. If your parcel is returned to us with an attempted delivery, or due to you providing incorrect address details, we will have to re-charge you the shipping costs, or alternatively refund the goods only.

In the unlikely event of an item arriving damaged, please contact us within 24 hours. We may request photographic evidence via email. We may either refund the monies paid for the item or we may decide to claim from our courier, in which case a full refund of the item will be given once we have successfully received compensation from the courier.

General

We will always endeavour to execute our work accurately. However, we are human and mistakes do happen. We will attempt to rectify any mistake to the satisfaction of all concerned. We know that errors are annoying, however, our staff are entitled to work without verbal abuse and we may ask you to call back or e-mail us if there is a decline in politeness.

We reserve the right to amend any part of our website or the Terms and Conditions at any time. Your continued use of the site will constitute acceptance of any such changes.

Welcome to our website. We very much hope you find it easy to use and that using it is a pleasurable experience, exceeded only by the glee of receiving your order, unpacking it and allowing distant memories to flood your mind, remembering your favourite meals from England. Revel in the anticipation as you prepare the meal, the delicious aromas reaching your nose and making your mouth water. Then, tuck in, and enjoy, savouring the flavours and sitting back at the end of the meal feeling contented, and let your mind wander back to happy times in good old Blighty. Or better still, share the event with friends and double the satisfaction. Why not try this recipe for rich beef stew with dumplings. Preparation time is less than thirty minutes and cooking time is two hours. For the stew to serve four to six people, you will need: 750g/1½lb shin of beef (shin is one of the cheapest cuts of beef and comes from the foreleg. It needs long slow cooking but has a superb flavour. Use it in casseroles and stews - it makes the most delicious gravy because the connective tissue in it turns to gelatine, thickening and flavouring the sauce) or stewing steak; 500g/1lb small onions, sliced; 40g/1½oz dripping; 1 tablespoon of flour; 900ml/1½ pint hot water; salt and freshly ground pepper; 500g/1lb carrots, halved lengthways; 1 bay leaf. For the dumplings, you will require: 175g/6oz self-raising flour; 75g/3oz shredded suet; 1 tablespoon of parsley (there are two main varieties: curly leaf and flat leaf. Both can be used for the same purposes, although flat leaf parsley has a stronger flavour and tends to be favoured in Mediterranean cooking), finely chopped; good pinch salt and pepper; water, to mix. To prepare the stew, remove any gristle and surplus fat from the meat and trim into neat 4cm/1½in cubes. Next, fry the meat and onions in the dripping until lightly browned all over. Sprinkle in the flour and mix well. Gradually stir in the water and continue stirring until it boils. Season to taste. Cover and simmer very gently for 1 hour. Then add the carrots and bay leaf and simmer for a further hour, when it will be time to add the dumplings. To make the dumplings, sieve the flour into a bowl and add the suet, parsley, salt and pepper. Next add enough water to make a soft but not sticky dough, about 3 tablespoons full should suffice. Lightly flour your hands and roll the dough into eight small balls. Add to the stew and cook for a further 15-20 minutes. Many of the ingredients, such as Atora suet and the self-raising flour, can be purchased through the baking aids department on our website. Dining on this traditional British fare will evoke memories of cold and wet British winters and how we made ourselves feel better during such inclement weather.
