My father, the late Brig.-Gen Vivien Leighton-Japhet, introduced me to Gentleman\'s Relish at the tender age of 3 when we were still in India. He said it would ward off dengue fever! When we returned to Hampshire in 1948 it is remembered that I always asked for the relish instead of jam! I am now 64 and live in Barbados where it is impossible to find it. Fortnums send me some out 2 or 3 times a year!
I couldn\'t live without it - and just as the instructions say - spread it thinly on (white) toast.
